BB17 Day 78 - James and Meg are evicted; Steve wins HoH
September 3, 2015
9:00-10:00 AM: Vanessa asked Steve if he and John decided to keep Julia. Steve said that he thinks so. Vanessa then asked if Steve talked to Austin about it. Steve said no. He said that it was just an idea that had floated around. Vanessa questioned if Steve would ever do this without letting her know and getting her on board. Steve said no. Steve spoke to the twins and made sure that he is not going up as an initial nominee or replacement nominee if either of them win. They both said that he will not be going up. John asked Steve if they should just go with the plan to evict Meg. Steve yeah and that he doesn’t think that it is worth it to flip. Steve said that one of them has to win HoH. John agreed. Steve asked if John thinks that it is the right move to keep Julia. John said that there is no good move but he thinks that it is the right one.
12:00-1:00 PM: Liz told Austin that Steve would be the only option left to pawn if James or John won PoV, even though she made a deal with him. Austin said that it would be Steve or Vanessa. Austin pointed out that Steve doesn’t really trust Vanessa’s vote and therefore he doesn’t want to be on the block. Austin told Liz that John said that he doesn’t trust Steve or Vanessa anymore, so he will nominate them. Liz said that’s good and she wants him to win. Austin didn’t think that Steve would vote against them if they were up next to Vanessa. Austin told Vanessa that Steve went to the twins and asked them that they not nominate or backdoor him next week. Austin thought that it was weird that Steve felt the need to make that deal. He wondered if Steve was planning to throw HoH. Vanessa said that Steve has no grounds to ask for that deal, since he had already given his word that he would vote for Julia. Austin wondered if he should make a deal with James. Vanessa thought that he could wait it out and then approach James if he wins HoH, giving him the go ahead to nominate the twins. Vanessa said that they are fine as long she is not nominated with one of them. Austin said that he could break his word and backdoor James. Vanessa told Austin that there is no downside to make the deal if he is willing to break his word. Vanessa figured that it would not make sense for James to win PoV and use it on John. Vanessa said that the easiest move is to put James up with John, so that James cannot use PoV on John and force Steve out. Austin’s logic for making the deal with James is that Liz could win PoV and then he would end up nominated next to Julia. Vanessa said that James will break the deal anyway.
1:00-2:00 PM: Steve told Vanessa that he was up most of the night and could not sleep. Vanessa told Steve that it is a bad move to take a shot at Austin and the twins right now. Vanessa figured that James and Meg would definitely work with Austin and Liz if Julia were to go, putting them at a numerical disadvantage. Steve said that James also has more incentive to go after Austin and the twins if Julia is still there. Vanessa agreed. Steve said that Vanessa is right and he made that decision. Steve said that he is not feeling well and it is 100% stress induced over the vote. Vanessa told Steve that she was an economics major and she wrote her thesis on game theory, so she knows that they are making the correct decision in this scenario.
2:00-3:00 PM: Steve spoke to himself and the viewers, saying that Vanessa is telling him what is best for her game but what is best for her game isn’t necessarily what is best for his game. Steve also said that he wants to protect John but does not want to do so at the expense of risking himself in this game. Steve later said that he could just say that he is playing Big Brother and flip it. A short while later, feeds went down. They are unlikely to return prior to conclusion of tonight’s live show, so we may not find out which way the vote will go until it happens live tonight.
6:00-7:00 PM: During the live double eviction episode, Meg was evicted by a vote of 4-1. James was the lone vote to evict Julia. Liz went on to win HoH. She then nominated James and John for eviction. Everyone but Vanessa played in the veto competition. Each houseguest got to roll the ball twice, with their score being the sum of the scores from the two rolls. The scores were Veto scores: Julia 17, Austin 15, Liz 15, James 0, John 0, Steve 0. Julia won the Power of Veto and decided not to use it. James was evicted by a unanimous vote of 4-0.
7:00-8:00 PM: When feeds returned, Liz told Julia that it worked out okay that she won HoH over Julia, since Julia had deals with John and Steve not to nominate them. Julia asked who she should nominate if she wins. Julia said that obviously John is the next target. She said that the pawn would have to be Vanessa. Liz disagreed and said that Steve needs to be the target but he should not be nominated initially. Liz said that Steve is the one standing between them winning the game, while John is somebody that they can all beat at the end. Austin spoke to Vanessa and they discussed who John and Steve would nominate. Vanessa said that John would nominate the twins and she expects that Steve would realize that he needs to also. They agreed that it would be best for Austin to throw HoH. Vanessa assured Austin that she would get him the votes if he were to end up on the block. A short while later, Austin was having second thoughts. He said that he could always nominate John and Steve, using Julia as the pawn if one is needed. He said that he could explain that they need Vanessa to stick with them and they cannot upset her. Vanessa said that it may be best for both of them to throw it. Austin felt that it was too risky. Vanessa suggested that he talk to John and Steve to see who they would nominate. Vanessa mentioned that she would want John out before Steve.
Austin told Steve that it is a scary week for him, since he may end up having to use someone like Julia as a pawn. He said that he can put John up but doesn’t know who else. Austin said that he does not want to nominate Steve at all. He said that it is too risky and he hopes that Steve feels the same way about him. Steve said that he agrees. Vanessa then told John to reassure Austin that he would nominate Liz and Julia, because she is almost positive that Austin will throw the HoH if he does that. Vanessa then spoke to Steve and told him that John wants them to take the HoH over him if it is a mental competition, so that he can play in the physical one next week. Vanessa said that it’s actually a good idea. Steve said that it’s fine but John cannot throw it until Austin and Julia have been eliminated. Steve then relayed that thought to John. Steve and Vanessa discussed nominating the twins. Vanessa said that Austin would have to go up if someone comes down, because those three would save each other. Steve then went to the bedroom alone and spoke to the camera. He said that it was an awful decision by Austin and the twins to keep John over James. He said that it was the biggest mistake of the game but he will benefit from it. Steve said that he will be nominating the twins. Steve mentioned that part of him wants to take Austin out. John spoke to Austin and thanked him for keeping him. John said that everyone voted him out and he wasn’t going to come back and only hold it against Austin anyway. Austin told John that he is not sure if he should tried to win this HoH, cause he is in a bad spot. John told Austin to go with his gut. Austin said that he may give it to John if it comes down to it, cause he can’t make this move. John told him that he is good if he does.
10:00-11:00 PM: Feeds returned following the HoH competition. Steve won HoH. Vanessa spoke to the twins and said she doesn’t expect John to go on the block. Julia was surprised by this. Vanessa pointed out that they had a Final 2 deal. Julia thought that the relationship has been strained due to the two of them being on the block together the week before last. Vanessa said that she didn’t hear anything officially but she would just be shocked if John were to go on the block.
11:00-12:00 AM: Austin told Liz that he has a feeling that one of the twins will be nominated. Liz relayed that info to Julia. Julia told Liz that her argument for staying off the block can be that she kept Steve safe during the double eviction. Julia said that hers is going to be that she was willing to be a pawn last week so that Steve did not have to do it himself. Julia felt that Steve would definitely not nominate Liz. She also mentioned that Austin has not even been on the block yet. Austin later spoke to Liz and said that he will try to keep them off of the block and to get Steve to stick to the Scamper Squad and nominate John. Liz figured that Steve knows that he is the low man in the Scamper Squad alliance. Austin said that they could try to promise him that he isn’t.
12:00-1:00 AM: Vanessa asked John if he thinks that nominating Liz and Julia is the best option. John said probably not, since the one you leave off of the block can win PoV and ruin the plan. Vanessa agreed and said that they need to leave the weakest one off of the block, otherwise this could all blow up in their faces. She said that hopefully Steve realizes that. John said that they have to let him know if not.
1:00-2:00 AM: Austin told Steve that he will help him with anything that he needs. Austin said that he needs Steve in the Final 3 and 4 to do things that he cannot do. Austin let Steve know that if he goes after the twins, he will do his best to make sure that the one that remains does not go after him. Steve told Austin that his problem is that he is on the bottom of the totem pole with the Scamper Squad. Austin said not with her. Austin said that his biggest fear is that the girls go on the block, Liz wins PoV and then he is screwed. Steve said that he believes that Julia’s performance today was good for Austin. Steve asked if Austin can keep the other twin from coming after him next week. Austin said that he is the only one that could. Steve asked what Austin would do next week. Austin said that he would probably put up John and Vanessa, and he would try to get the remaining twin to do so as well. Steve said that Austin knows that he cannot go to Final 3 with the twins. Austin agreed. Steve said that all four of them need this move to happen. Austin assured Steve that he will vote the way that he needs him to vote, even if it puts him in a bad position with Liz.
Austin said that he would shake on it right now that he would not nominate Steve next week if Steve keeps him off of the block. Steve brought up that Austin said the same thing when he promised not to nominate him next to John a couple of weeks ago. Austin said that he didn’t shake on it that time. Steve explained that it would be a big risk to leave him off of the block along with a twin, since they would control the votes at that point. Austin said that he is just worried that John and Liz will vote him out over Julia if Liz wins the veto. Steve said that he thinks that Austin is safe either way. Steve told Austin that he needs this too. Austin agreed and said that he needs to make sure that he chooses his family over anyone. Austin said that he has Steve’s back in this and he will understand. Steve told Austin that the problem when it comes to being the replacement nominee is that Austin would be the one to vote to keep the other twin if he is off the block. Austin understood but was concerned that John would vote him out if he is off of the block.
Vanessa told Steve that if he nominates the twins and Austin wins the PoV, the replacement nominee will be going home. Vanessa suggested leaving Julia off of the block. She explained that she could try to talk Julia out of using the PoV if she wins it, so long as they promise to keep Liz. Vanessa said that Julia does not trust Austin, because she was very concerned that he could be trying to flip the vote last week. Vanessa said that Austin is very strong and Steve cannot risk leaving him off of the block. Steve said that there is risk either way but Julia is the least risk. Vanessa said that she will give Austin her word on her mother that she would keep him over Liz if nominations remain the same. Vanessa said that John feels the same way about nominating Austin and Liz. She said that he would likely give his word that he would vote to keep Austin as well. Vanessa said that Steve need to minimize the probability of the worst case scenario happening. Vanessa told Austin that there is no reason why John would not give his word to keep Austin. She said that John is definitely closer to Austin than to the twins. Vanessa explained that it would make no sense for Steve not to nominate Austin if a twin won PoV, cause he cannot expect Austin to vote a twin out. Vanessa assured Austin that she would do what needs to be done to keep him safe. Austin said that they just need to get John on board.
2:00-3:00 AM: Liz and Julia discussed that Austin is sketching them out. Julia felt that Austin would not throw Liz under the bus but he would definitely throw her under the bus. Julia said that they can only trust each other. Julia said that it would be messed up if Steve nominated them and not Austin. Julia said that Austin should be comforting them and yet he is saying that Steve may put them up. She said that she hopes that Austin gets nominated. Julia also said that she loves Vanessa but they are at a point where if John doesn’t go up, it will have to be Vanessa. Julia said that she does not trust Austin and she feels as though he is trying to get one of them nominated. Liz told Austin that she is feeling a little sketched out, because he and Vanessa stopped talking when she walked into the bathroom. Austin explained that he believes that Steve is going to nominate them, since it sounds like he has promised safety to John and Vanessa. If they go on the block, Austin said that the one that remains off of the block will have to win the PoV.
John let Steve know that he thinks that the best move is to nominate Austin and Liz. He also suggested making Austin the target, because Austin and Vanessa have some sort of connection and would feel more comfortable competing against the twins in a physical HoH. John said that Vanessa gets all of the information from Austin and the twins somehow, suggesting that it is though Austin. John said that Vanessa got what she wanted last week, now it is time for them to get what they want this week. Steve wasn’t ready to commit to a target just yet but he did agree that Austin and Liz have to be nominated together. John said that he is willing to vote whichever way Steve wants him to. After thinking about it a bit more, Steve told John that he is totally right about targeting Austin because of Vanessa. What Steve struggled with is how he can cut a deal in order to protect himself for next week. While they were talking, Julia spoke to Vanessa and told her that she expects that two of her, Liz and Austin will be nominated. She felt that Steve turned her offering to talk and then called John up to talk. Vanessa suggested that Julia make a deal with Steve that she would not use the PoV if she is kept off of the block.
3:00-4:00 AM: Julia told Steve that she is willing to vote the way that he wants if Steve does not nominate him. She then said that she is also willing not to use the Power of Veto if Steve does not want her to, even if Liz is nominated. After Julia left, Steve said to himself that Julia would use the PoV in a heartbeat and would be a fool not to. Liz headed upstairs next. She quickly pointed out that she did not nominate Steve during the double eviction. She also offered to vote however Steve wanted her to. Vanessa headed up to talk to Steve again. She said that Austin will understand this move the most out of anyone, cause he is a game player. Vanessa said that Julia understands as well and realizes that she is probably the smallest target of the three. Steve said that he is planning to nominate Austin and Liz. Vanessa said that they need to make the move that gives them the best probability of winning HoH against the two that remain. Vanessa said that she and John will vote how Steve wants but it has to come down to that. She also said that Austin is least likely to be a bitter juror, though taking out Liz kills two birds with one stone. They agreed that whichever two of the three remain will work together, so they need to leave the weaker competitors in. Vanessa suggested that Austin is less likely to win the later competitions. Vanessa said that she has a very strong idea as to how Steve can make this move while getting very little blood his hands if the nominations stay the same. Vanessa told Steve to think about what Austin told John before HoH. Steve said that Austin said that he was okay with the twins going. Vanessa said that John could let that slip.
