Big Brother 23 Day 38 - Kyland nominates Claire and Derek F for eviction
August 13, 2021
7:45 AM: Kyland told Xavier that he is thinking about having a house vote. He said that it would be done anonymously by bringing the houseguests into the HoH room one at a time. Xavier said that he could see it backfiring next week. As Kyland talked through is potential options for nominations, Xavier asked him what happened to Claire. Kyland said that Claire is his backup target.
7:46 AM: Derek X filled Claire, Hannah and Tiffany in on Kyland’s plan. He told them not to tell Kyland that he is sharing it but Kyland has a recreation of the memory wall and is going to give them Skittles to place on the faces of people. Derek said the plan is for Big D to ensure that they do not talk to each other. Derek looked to ensure that they were all on the same page in terms of saying Alyssa’s name.
7:54 AM: Kyland told Hannah and Xavier that he would rather not go after Sarah Beth but he will do it if that’s what he has to do. He mentioned knowing that people would nominate him next to Sarah Beth next week, which would allow the Cookout to take Sarah Beth out. Kyland wanted to take the powers into consideration when making his decision. Xavier figures that Alyssa and Britini are the two most likely to get one. Kyland said he talked to Big D and he is okay with being a pawn and he feels that he would potentially be the safest option to do so. Kyland said if it’s Alyssa and Big D and the six decides that Sarah Beth needs to go, he will do it but it’s not ideal. Xavier brought up that he would then be losing Christian and Alyssa on back to back weeks. Kyland said he does not want that. He mentioned wanting to take the next couple of days to decide on a target. Both Hannah and Xavier said it does not make sense for Kyland to take a shot at Sarah Beth.
8:15 AM: Hannah told Kyland that sending Claire home this week does not make any sense. Kyland said he has no intention of doing so but putting her up gives them some time to work on getting Xavier on board with sending Alyssa home. Hannah warned Kyland that if Alyssa doesn’t go up, people are going to suspect that Kyland and Xavier are working closely together. Kyland reiterated that they can ideally get Xavier on board with targeting Alyssa. If not, he said that they will have to let Claire go. Alyssa told Hannah that keeping Alyssa will give her time to rack up the BB Bucks. She said that the rest of the Cookout aside from Xavier is fine with targeting Alyssa.
8:27 AM: Hannah told Tiffany that Xavier is not on board with Alyssa going. Hannah said she gets that it could leave Xavier vulnerable. Tiffany said that means that she is going to lose Claire this week.
8:29 AM: Tiffany spoke to the cameras and said that she has been emotional for the last few days. She said she needs to mentally prepare herself for losing one of her closest people and accept what has to be done.
8:30 AM: Kyland told Tiffany that he doesn’t know who he is sending home. Tiffany asked if she is going on the block. Kyland said no but she cannot send Big D home if he is on the block.
8:37 AM: Kyland explained to the houseguests that he has a couple of questions to ask each of them and it should not take more than a couple of minutes. He said that they can talk more later. Kyland used a board to mimic the memory wall and gave each of the houseguests candy to place to answer his questions. He asked who the most influential person in the house is, who they think the biggest threat to their personal game is, who they would have put up if they had won HoH, and who would be the safest pawn next to their target.
9:04 AM: Britini told Azah that she enjoyed what Kyland did. She asked Azah who she put for most influential. Azah said Frenchie. She explained that she told Kyland that she didn’t have an opinion on anything. Azah then told Big D the same thing. She asked that they keep it between them. Azah said she doesn’t see how these questions help pick a target. She thinks that Kyland did it to further his own game so she did not want to take part in it.
9:20 AM: Kyland asked Sarah Beth who she had picked for nominations. She said Britini and Big D, with Britini being her target. If Britini came down, she said that she would target Big D and put Hannah up next to him. Sarah Beth brought up that Big D made a joke about the two of them being in a showmance. When Kyland asked Sarah Beth to name three people she might nominate next week, she said Britini, Derek X and Hannah.
9:32 AM: Azah let Derek X know that she listed Frenchie as the most influential. Derek said he chose Tiffany. Azah said she didn’t see how the questions would help with nominations so she didn’t feel comfortable answering them.
9:37 AM: Kyland spoke to Claire about potentially being a pawn. Claire said she did not see the benefit of doing that and added that she is not someone who will be able to win the veto if he wants to go through with a backdoor plan. Claire said she doesn’t see the benefit but he can do what’s best for his game. Claire suggested that Hannah would be a better option since Derek X has more reason to use the veto on her.
9:48 AM: Kyland told Derek X that he spoke to Claire about using someone from The Detectives as a pawn. He said he knows that there are plenty of reasons that it should not be Derek. Derek questioned why they are not targeting Alyssa. Kyland talked about having had a revelation. Derek asked if it came after talking to Alyssa. Kyland said no. Kyland then talked about wanting to put Claire up next to someone that most people wouldn’t want to sit next to. Derek said that would mean that Claire goes home. Kyland said no since Derek, Hannah, Sarah Beth and Tiffany could keep Claire over that person. Kyland said the people he is looking at are ones that they have a high chance of going home over if they are next to them on the block. Derek asked why they wouldn’t go after people likely to put them up instead. Kyland said the powers add a new element which makes HoHs and PoVs less powerful than before.
10:15 AM: Claire and Derek X discussed that Claire is likely going on the block. Derek reassured her that she has the votes and that Kyland doesn’t want to send her home. Derek said he wants to win the veto to force Kyland’s hand to nominate Alyssa. The two agreed that Kyland must have cut a deal with Alyssa and Xavier. Derek suspected that Azah would be on the block next to Claire.
10:34 AM: Feeds went down for the nomination ceremony.
11:33 AM: Feeds returned. Kyland nominated Claire and Derek F for eviction.
11:36 AM: Derek X asked why Big D is on the block. Kyland said because of the powers. Kyland also mentioned that almost anyone can put him up now but Derek would not be as high on the list to go up next to him. Derek asked if Kyland cut a deal with the Kings. He said no. Derek brought up that Alyssa is the best liar in the house. Kyland said he took Britini out of the equation but Alyssa and Xavier are options for a replacement if they decide to take the shot.
11:40 AM: Alyssa asked Azah and Britini if they understood the speech. Britini said it seems like this is the move before checkmate. Alyssa asked if she thinks there is something bigger planned. Britini said yeah.
11:45 AM: Azah told Britini her theory is that Big D is up because he has a chance of getting a power and then this would flush it out and Kyland would be able to nominate whoever he wants. Azah told Britini not to tell anyone if she wins a power. She encouraged her to use it on herself when she needs it.
11:51 AM: Derek F told Azah and Britini that he is okay and he expected this once he cursed Kyland out yesterday.
11:55 AM: Azah told Xavier she thinks that this is a backdoor plan for Britini because Kyland is obsessed with Britini after she chose to pick him and Sarah Beth to match up against each other in the competition.
12:00 PM: Azah told Big D not to tell anyone if he wins a power and not to use it either. She said she thinks that he is on the block because Kyland wants to flush out his power. Azah said everyone saw her call Kyland out yesterday so she is not buying it that Big D is up for cursing him out when nobody saw it.
12:30 PM: Big D told Azah that Kyland wont have the votes to send him home. Azah said he will have the four votes from the Cookout plus Britini’s vote. Azah said Kyland is really selfish and he became obsessed with the fact that Britini picked him first. Derek said he will hit Kyland where it hurts by sending Sarah Beth out. Azah said she might send Kyland home. Derek told her that they cannot go back on the promise that they made to each other. Azah argued that Kyland isn’t making moves based on their mission. She said that if he can justify this, he will find a way to make sense of keeping Sarah Beth over one of them when it comes down to it. Derek told her she has to realize that she would not put Britini up if the shoe was on the other foot. Azah said she wouldn’t have even gone for HoH then. Azah said she thinks that Britini will go up if Derek wins the veto. Derek said he wouldn’t use it then. Azah said she would use it on Derek but she hopes Britini wins and uses it on him so everyone will see Kyland for what he is when she goes up in Derek’s place. When Azah asked if Derek understands how this was selfish since Britini going leaves them vulnerable, Derek said it’s the same for all of them since Alyssa going would leave Xavier vulnerable, for example. Derek reminded her that they agreed not to send their people home, so Sarah Beth cannot go this week. Derek said he is okay with someone else taking Britini out because his worst fear would be them winning HoH the week that Britini has to go.
1:04 PM: Feeds went down for the High Roller's Room twist.
7:19 PM: Feeds returned.
7:20 PM: Derek F told Kyland he doesn’t know how long he can keep this up, as hating him is hard. Kyland said he doesn’t have to hate him. Derek said he does since he has to make sure everyone knows that he does not like him. Kyland asked Derek how much money he got. Derek said he doesn’t think it makes sense for them to share it with each other because people will not keep their mouths shut. Derek mentioned that he has painted Kyland out to be the worst person alive and he has even lied to Azah that he is the target. Kyland said he shouldn’t be doing that. Derek said he needs her to keep the attitude that he needs, and he will explain to her after the week that he volunteered to go up so that she wouldn’t have to be a pawn. Kyland again asked what Derek got. He said that he got $100. Kyland said that he only got $50. Kyland said he wants to make sure that the power gets used this week while he controls the replacement nominee.
7:31 PM: Hannah and Xavier told each other that they got $75. Xavier said Britini, Derek F and Tiffany also said that they got $75, so two of the three are lying. Hannah said Britini is lying and she got $100. Hannah informed Xavier that Derek X got $100 as well.
7:41 PM: Claire and Derek X attempted to figure out who is lying about what they received. They discussed that five people have said they got $50 but Claire knows she got $50 so only four of those five could have $50. The five that claimed to have $50 are Alyssa, Azah, Derek F, Kyland and Sarah Beth.
7:50 PM: Hannah told Derek X she is glad that Alyssa and Xavier didn’t play because now they cannot win the second Power of Veto. Derek questioned why they feel so safe. Hannah said there has to be some sort of agreement. Derek said Kyland told him that there isn’t and he believes it. Hannah said she thinks Britini got $100 and she is as sure of that as she is that Derek got the $100. Derek said he is shocked that he got the $100 after lying to so many people last week. Derek said that he would like for Claire to win the second Power of Veto.
7:56 PM: Sarah Beth told Claire there is a 2/3 chance that the second veto will be won. She said that if she were Kyland, she would bet on one of the nominees so that she would get a veto if her nominee did. Claire said she feels like the odds are good that at least one veto will be used. They both agreed that next week’s power is the scarier one. From their talk, there appears to be an element of randomness involved that could lead to anyone going on the block.
8:14 PM: Derek F told Azah he asked Kyland if he is actually targeting him and he said no but you never know. Derek said it’s an uneasy feeling even if he is just a pawn. Derek suggested that they not tell everyone what they got money wise. Derek said he told Kyland and Xavier that he got $75 and he is not going to tell anyone that he got $100. Azah said she only got $50 and she worried that America hates her.
8:47 PM: Hannah told Azah she doesn’t think that it would be smart to send Claire home this week so she is hoping that there is a backdoor plan. Azah agreed that Claire leaving does nothing for the Cookout. The two also agreed that Alyssa and Derek X are likely to be the first ones to figure out the Cookout even though Kyland is saying that he is going after Claire out of fear that she will figure it out.
9:14 PM: Tiffany asked Xavier how he feels about keeping Claire. Xavier said he would rather send Britini home. Tiffany agreed. Xavier pointed out that if Britini got $100 and continues to get $100, she will be able to do some stuff with it. Xavier said he would like for Britini to go up in Derek’s place.
9:45 PM: Xavier told Alyssa that he would like for either Britini or Derek X to go home this week since they have $100. He specifically mentioned wanting Britini to go. Alyssa said okay. She told Xavier it’s so obvious that Claire, Derek X, Hannah and Tiffany are working together. She suggested that they would want a fifth and Xavier would be their top choice.
10:31 PM: Hannah asked Kyland if he would want nominations to stay the same or if he would want Claire to come down. Kyland said his preference is for Britini to go since he feels as though a lot of the conflict within the six is due to trying to protect Britini. Kyland admitted that he may be influenced by Tiffany in thinking that. Kyland said his biggest issue with Britini is she is unpredictable and he does not think that Azah and Derek F have a good handle on what she would do. Kyland explained that Claire was the safe option since she mentioned three Cookout members as her targets, those being Azah, Derek F and Xavier. Kyland said his only hold up on targeting Claire is that he doesn’t know how he would explain it to Derek X. Hannah asked if the six is leaning towards Alyssa, Britini or Claire. Kyland said he and Xavier are leaning towards Britini. Hannah said she, Azah and Derek F are leaning towards Alyssa, and Tiffany is likely leaning towards Britini.
10:58 PM: When Claire checked in with Kyland, he said he is all over the place in terms of targets. Kyland said the good thing is they have options for any of the veto scenarios. He talked about wanting the second veto to be in play this week while they have control of HoH. Claire later made him question that as she pointed out that they will not have enough money to play to win the second power next week, and they may be on the block.
11:09 PM: Derek X let Kyland know that he got $100. The two of them and Claire ran through different scenarios as to how to best manage the possibility of a second veto being in play. Kyland said the worst case scenario would be Derek F comes down and Britini has control of the other veto. Claire said Britini would then have the ability to use her veto, even to save the replacement nominee if she chose to do so.
