BBCAN4 - Jared Kesler Exit Interview
April 29, 2016
Why do you think that Joel ended up voting against you?
Jared: His reasoning to me was that he wanted to get closer to Kelsey and the brothers, knowing good and well that I was a big block in him winning the money and now he is perfectly set up to where he can lean toward Tim and Cassandra if they win power or the brothers and Kelsey. He is perfectly set up in the middle and he knew that I kind of stood in the way cause I was making him choose a side. Without me in the way, he can kind of stay in the middle for a bit longer. I don’t hold it against him. It was a really smart decision on his part.
You said to Cassandra that “both you and I know it’s personal. You know why I am taking this personally”. Can you expand on that and explain why you took this move personally?
Jared: The fact that she was a hometown girl gave me a lot of confidence that I could count on her and trust her. We worked together from the get-go. I also protected her so many times when she had a big target on her back. That’s why her decision this week was such a shock to me and really hurt me, to be completely honest.
Had you won the Power of Veto, would you have used it on the brothers like you had discussed with them?
Jared: It was kind of a huge dilemma for me. I told Kelsey many times that "if I do win this, I will feel obligated to do it because they helped me". It changed the game a lot. To say I didn’t really give it my all in the veto is fairly true. I wanted them off the block but I didn’t want to have to be the one to do it. I kind of told them that I was leaning more towards throwing it to help them help themselves, basically. If I would have won it, I would have faced a moral dilemma and I probably would have stuck to my word, took them off the block and committed to them and Kelsey for the duration of the game for sure.
How long would you have been willing to keep the brothers in the game?
Jared: After getting closer with them towards the end of the game, I really found that I had so many things in common with them. They were really great allies once we got rid of a few key players who tried to pin us against each other like Mitch and Dallas. We were both confident that we were going to take each other to the Final 4. We were going to let the best man win. I would take Kelsey to the end and they would take whoever ended up in Final 4 with them. It would have been kind of a bloodbath but friendly competition for sure.
Did you want to go to the end with Kelsey because you felt you could beat her or because of your loyalty to her?
Jared: My loyalty to her. Whether she could beat me or not, there is absolutely no way I would not have taken that girl to the finals. She left the house on her own free will to let Raul stay and get a little bit more TV time. If she won that Power of Veto, she would have taken me off of the block. She was so selfless. That’s something I can respect in the game and in real life. Whether she beat me or not, I was happy to take her all the way to the end.
Do you think that Kelsey returning to the game was more beneficial or detrimental to your game?
Jared: Game wise, it probably wasn’t the greatest thing but the game is only so much of Big Brother…it’s all of the downtime and the stress you go through as well. When she left, I was really down in the dumps and wasn’t in the right mindset. When she came back into the house, I was back in game mode, looking forward to competitions and eager to talk to people. When she wasn’t around, I was kind of by myself and feeling sorry for myself. It was kind of a blessing in disguise having her coming back in the house. It did put another target on me but a target on my back was nothing I was a stranger to during my time in this game.
If you could have gotten Joel and Kelsey on board last week, would you have voted Tim out over Maddy?
Jared: Yeah, man. People have asked what I would change in the game. It would be getting Tim out that last week. I know Maddy would have been very loyal to me. With Ramsey leaving, his final words to me were “Maddy really respects you”. I know she did and we had that common mutual respect. Even though we didn’t slap high fives in the hallway, we still didn’t mind each other. It was just too bad that the girls didn’t see eye to eye so I had to stick with Kelsey’s decision and vote her out. I am disappointed that I didn’t get Tim out. I’m only assuming that Joel is working very closely with Tim at this point to not waver in that decision whatsoever. If I were to have a regret, it would be not getting Tim out last week.
Had you been HoH this past week over Cassandra, what would your plan have been?
Jared: My plan would have been to get rid of Tim. I sadly would have had to put Cassandra up as a pawn but I would have let her know that. In the case that I had to put someone up as the replacement nominee, Cassandra would have been safe. That replacement would have been going home and it probably would have been Nikki to knock down Tim a bit cause at this point he has Cassandra, Nikki and possibly Joel, for all I know, wrapped around his fingers. My target was Tim if I were in power.
What do you think that Cassandra’s best game move would have been this past week?
Jared: It would have been smart to keep me in the game, just knowing that I did have her back through and through. It’s disappointing that she pulled the trigger on me when those weren’t my intentions with her at all but it’s the name of the game. I guess she has some other people that she trusts a bit more than me. I’m really surprised that is so. I guess the story will unfold this week and we will find out if that really paid off for her or not.
What are your thoughts on Tim and his game up to this point?
Jared: You know what, Tim and I have been fairly close this whole game. We have bonded more on a personal level than on a game level. It has been slowly more apparent to all of the people in the house that he has been playing the game hard. It’s really impressive because we haven’t noticed up until this point. He is really good at what he does. He is a really smart guy and he deserves to be where he was, whether it screwed me over by getting Cassandra to do this or whether she did it on her own freewill. He deserves to be where he is but I kind of got the short end of the stick when it came to Cassandra and Tim.
What will you be basing your jury vote on?
Jared: I would be lying if I said I wasn’t sour at Cassandra. I think I have played this game with a lot of loyalty and stuff like that. I’m really going to respect the people who were really well rounded, who competed but were loyal to those that they surrounded themselves with. I like to think I didn’t lie too much. People who didn’t lie too much and were fairly honest are who I am going to try to vote for but it really all depends who is standing next to each other.
Will you attempt to turn the jury on Cassandra to ensure that she gets no votes like you said you would?
Jared: I think it goes without saying that with me telling people the goings on of this week that they will maybe lose a bit of respect for her, knowing that she did that to someone that she could really trust. I know a few people in jury currently are not the biggest fans of her. I think that will only aid in their decision and if she did go all the way she might only be getting second place.
Who do you want to see in the Final 2 and why?
Jared: I would love to see the brothers and Kelsey in the finals. The brothers said they would treat me to a country music festival. That would be pretty alright if they did that, and Kelsey because I stuck with her through and through. If Joel wound up there, he definitely deserves it. He has been a very smart man. Those three are my pick of the litter.
